Wheaton Montessori Academy is a Pre-school service operated by Karen Nulty & Siobhan Loughlin-Mills who have over 30 years experience combined in the industry. Operating since 2007, our focus is on offering a whole holistic approach that encourages all aspects of the child’s development. We do not focus on academics. instead, our focus is on learning through play, developing independence skills and support emotional and social development in preparation for BIG school. Our art and crafts projects will be the child’s own ideas and interpretation of their creativity. We have 3 different classrooms to facilitate children in the morning and afternoon.
The curriculum and pedagogy at WMA are a child led emergent curriculum. We work in partnership with the children and respect each individual and their families. By offering an inclusive environment and with an Inclusion Co- Ordinator on-board, we ensure every child’s needs are met. As part of our curriculum, we use the outdoor environment to stimulate learning & development. Children who play outside are also less likely to get sick, to be stressed or become aggressive, and are more adaptable to life’s unpredictable turns. We strongly believe that children should be out in all weather. We have an outdoor policy and we require that children have adequate clothing for the different types of weather.
Parental involvement is important to us and we encourage family to engage with us at different times throughout the year. It’s important that the children see us working in partnership with you. This is why we operate a key worker system; this is where one staff member will have been in charge of observing and documenting your child’s development and share this with you. This is done through learning journals which have pictures, art, and observations included to build a picture for you to enjoy.
All staff are fully qualified and garda vetted. CPD training is very important to us and we constantly engage in different workshops to develop our knowledge and skills.
